This policy explains what personal data Meals & Mixers (mealsandmixers.com) collects, why, and the choices you have. It applies to this website only.
Who we are
Meals & Mixers is an independently run recipe and cocktail website. Our website address is: https://mealsandmixers.com. For any privacy query, you can reach us at matt@mealsandmixers.com.
What data we collect and why
Analytics
We use Google Analytics (via Site Kit by Google) to understand how visitors use the site – which pages are popular, how people arrive here, and general device/location information. This data is aggregated and does not directly identify you. It is processed by Google LLC under Google’s own privacy policy, available at https://policies.google.com/privacy.
Advertising
We use Google AdSense to display adverts on this site. Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this or other websites. You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google’s Ads Settings at https://adssettings.google.com, or opt out of third-party personalised advertising generally at https://www.aboutads.info/choices. Where required (for example, for visitors in the UK and EEA), we only enable personalised advertising cookies once you have given consent via our cookie banner.
Comments
When you leave a comment on the site, we collect the data shown in the comment form, plus your IP address and browser user agent string, to help detect spam. An anonymised string created from your email address (a hash) may be sent to the Gravatar service to check if you use it; Gravatar’s privacy policy is at https://automattic.com/privacy/. If your comment is approved, your profile picture is visible to the public alongside your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the site (for example, via a comment or contact form), avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included, as other visitors can download and extract that data.
Cookies
This site uses a small number of cookies:
- Essential cookies – needed for the site to function (e.g. remembering if you’re logged in to the WordPress admin). These are always on.
- Analytics cookies – set by Google Analytics to measure site usage, as described above.
- Advertising cookies – set by Google AdSense to serve and measure adverts, only after consent where required.
- Comment cookies – if you leave a comment, you can opt in to a cookie that remembers your name, email and website for next time. These last one year.
You can control or delete cookies at any time through your browser settings. Blocking cookies may affect how parts of the site work.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, links to other websites). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if you visited that other website directly, and those sites may collect data about you, use cookies, and track your interaction, including tracking your interaction with embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Who we share your data with
We share data with Google (Google Analytics and Google AdSense) as described above. We do not sell your personal data to anyone.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely so we can recognise and approve follow-up comments automatically, rather than holding them in a moderation queue. Analytics and advertising data is retained according to Google’s own retention settings for Analytics and AdSense.
Your rights over your data
If you have left comments on this site, you can request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you, except where we are required to keep it for administrative, legal, or security purposes. To make either request, contact us at matt@mealsandmixers.com.
Where your data is sent
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. Analytics and advertising data is processed by Google, which may transfer data internationally under its own safeguards; see https://policies.google.com/privacy for details.
