Ingredients
Dates, chopped
Dark cooking chocolate
Plain flour
Demerara and dark brown sugar
Butter
Eggs
Bicarbonate of soda and baking powder
Double cream, to serve
Directions
- Soak the chopped dates in hot water until softened, then blend to a paste with the bicarbonate of soda.
- Cream the butter and sugars, beat in the eggs, then fold in the flour and the date paste along with melted dark chocolate.
- Pour into a baking dish and bake until risen and set.
- Serve warm with cream or a toffee sauce.
